summer internship excitement

So, this week has been super-fun and quite exhausting. And I still have two more days of it! What have I been doing do you ask? I recently got a summer internship with the Florida Times-Union working with the digital media department with the great Ms. Tracy Collins. Our first assignment is to cover The Players Championship. No, I'm not writing about sports! We are writing the goings-ons, the happenings and community involvement at TPC Sawgrass. I've been walking around in the heat, interviewing random people, spotting some friends from work(members and co-workers), and seeing some interesting characters. Although we are only half-way through this week of coverage, I am really satisfied that I got this opportunity to cover such a great event, work and making friends with the other fun interns, and having some experience to add under my belt. I've already been challenged, rewarded and exhausted, but overall, I am having the time of my life. Tomorrow should be crazy and Sunday even crazier as it's the last day. We'll see what's to come!

Week in Review

I had this idea to start writing a rundown about my weeks.  I would like to start updating my blog every Sunday to include my activities, accomplishments and adventures from the previous week as sort of a recap.

So this week has had its ups and downs, but has had mainly good fun. I began the week as usual:
Monday morning, woke up early and drove to school.  I remember writing a facebook post when I got to school about how I do not remember driving there at all.  You know those days, whether it was me being tired, dazed or from sheer boredom, I do not remember driving, which is pretty scary when you think about it!  School was good, only one class so pretty short day there, so I went home and finished my homework for the rest of the week.
Tuesday through Thursday day were typical school days.  Adam was sick on Thursday so he stayed home.  When normally we have a long break together to eat lunch and talk on campus, so I spent that time reading and finished the book I was reading, "The Witches of Eastwick" by John Updike.  Excellent novel, Updike is a great writer and I was engulfed in this book, as it took me only less than a week to read.  Also, this book and long break kept me from keeping an internal promise that I would finish all weekend homework on Thursday so I would have the 3-day weekend to be free!
Thursday night, I worked my last night at the pizza place.  I was upset at first about the reasons behind not working there anymore, but have come to the realization that it is for the best.  After coming home Thursday night, I did not do homework as planned, but drank red wine with Adam and watched a bit of a documentary entitled, "Scott Walker: 3oth Century Man".  However, this was a download from Netflix instant play and our internet connection was not strong enough to let us finish the movie, so its coming in the mail.  What we did see of the movie looked interesting.
Friday was my first day back at Sawgrass after being off for 2 weeks (to adjust to school).  I had a really good day there, catching up with fellow employees and talking with the members.  After work I went to Mark and Martha's, had dinner with Mark's mom, and I actually convinced the two of them to come out to Riverside to hang out! So the 3 of us, along with Adam and Lisa went to Edge 17 in Murray Hill.  The characters there were out of the normal for us, but we drank, talked and danced with each other and a few friends we ran into there.  The company you keep really does make all the difference in the world!
Worked Saturday and still didn't do homework! Adam, Lisa and I drove out to the beach, Adam made plans to hang out with Rick, which of course was nice.  Then, we had a triple couple's date at Campeche Bay! This consisted of Lisa and her date, Michael, Martha and Mark, and of course me and Adam.  The night that followed dinner was one to note! After getting beer, we decided the beach bars weren't for us, so we went back to M&M's where we talked and drank and laughed and cloud gazed and watched youtube videos and drank and took pictures and finally crashed at around 430 a.m.!  So fun!
Sunday, Adam and I promised each other we would devote the day to homework.  But this didn't happen (are you sensing a theme here?)  We spent the day at M&M's (Martha made us breakfast) watching the Law&Order SVU marathon, we wanted to be outside doing something but we all couldn't agree on anything! Finally, we decided to eat lunch out and have 1 beer at European Street.  When we got there, all the people who were sitting outside with us were attracted to something happening on the street.  Curious, we asked what was going on and found out a car had crash into the side of a building and there were cops and tow trucks all around.  But the kicker and funny/stupid part to the story is that someone driving another car was "rubber necking" to see the accident and hit another car!  It was so bizarre but was certainly not shocking since rubber necking is always going to happen! I call it "nosy neighbor syndrome."  So Adam and I drove home, read for a few hours, then after deciding not to go out, spent the night drinking and talking on Juan's porch with a few friends.
So that leads us to Monday: or officially homework day! Last chance for this!  I woke up, started it and then took a break to have lunch with my dad.  He wanted to check out the Labor Day festivities at the Landing.  We got there right on time to watch an 8-minute Krystal hamburger eating contest! The winner won after inhaling 65 burgers!!  This was an event I never thought I would be witness to!  After lunch, the holiday weekend full of fun and adventure and bizarre occurrences really started to catch up with me.  I took a 2 hour nap, worked on h/w and am now writing this post!  I will finish the day reading and preparing for back to school tomorrow!
The events of this weekend were not out of the norm for me.  I had a really great one, but for the sake of my schoolwork, I hope next weekend is a little less uneventful! Stayed tuned for next week's post and we will see!

Help me if you'd like!!

It is so hard not knowing what you want out of life.
So many things change, happen, evolve.

I'm juggling two jobs, starting an internship soon and school starts again at the end of the month. All of these things are typical for me(just read my earlier blogs!!) but I'm thinking more about the future of my life in general. Honestly, I love my life how it is now, but of course there are a few things that I would like to change.

Which leads me to my initial thoughts about this post...I'm in the market for a new computer( a laptop to take to school) and a new camera(my old Nikon is just that, oooollllddd!) My visions are to embrace the present more, be more creative now and to hopefully get inspired to achieve these goals.
That is where you all come in!
My new internship will require me to write about local bands, visit spots around town that are fun and creative for young people and for my own benefit, I want to hear your thoughts about life! And also, what new bands you all are listening to, what places you visit for fun, things like this! Hopefully, this will expand my creativity and hopefully expand this particular blog!
More to come!

Top of the Pops

Man, have I been busy. Currently, I am taking 3 summer term classes, writing a 4-page paper, an 8-page paper and studying(or cramming) for several tests, while still trying to have a life (i.e. being a good girlfriend to Adam, being a good sister, daughter, friend and party animal and ahving time to eat). I'd hate to be put under that "career student" category that I have put many people under before. But I guess this is my life now, and I just have to accept it.

It is hard to think about your life as it is now, totally different from the way it used to be, but I have to thank someone(?) for the way my life turned out. In recent events, I have begun to look at other people, with qualities that I myself have, with disgust, and this has prompted me to want to become a better person.

All those with me, climb aboard. Let's make this life a good one and be proud of ourselves, not just to say we like the people we are or that we want to change. It seems like I've said this next phrase a hundred times over the last couple of months, but "stop talking about it and do it." That is all.

Not Much of Anything At All

So, I created a blog, made one post and have, needless to say, been more busy than I anticipated. School has been the dominant force in my life, proving its presence during this week. It has been Spring Break for UNF and I thought it would be nothing but staying out late, sleeping til noon, and not worrying about homework. However, this has not been the case. This week I have worked, spent hours at the library, and have caught up on a lot of reading. This hasn't really been so much of a break as I would have hoped for. But it has had its advantages. I have gone out, seen friends and bands, and today had the best day to end Spring Break, at a cookout for my dear friend Michele's birthday.
So, I was hoping that I would have more time in my busy life to write more blog posts. I think now I will be more inclined to do so and hope that people will not be bored with me and still read my posts!
Hope all is well and will be around...

Gettin Started

Hello all,

So, I took the advice of my knowledgeable older sister to jump on the digital bandwagon and create my own blog. To be honest, I would have never thought I'd have a blog, but I figured why not?
So, I guess I will preface this first post by telling a bit about myself. I am a high-spirited, often opinionated, lover who enjoys reading, writing, dancing, sewing, laughing, listening, talking, bicycling, shopping and antiquing. I am currently a server in a restaurant and am in my junior year of college at the University of North Florida, where I am studying communication with focus in journalism. Ideally, I would love to write for a magazine or write freelance. Also, lately, I have been really interested in making podcast and the multimedia aspect of journalism. Maybe a career at a radio station?

OK, enough about me...

I want this blog to express a part of me that many people may not know, express my opinions about any topic and allow me to have fun while doing so.

SO, on that note, please enjoy, comment, ask questions and I'll see you around!!
